Summer Camp Internship Opportunity
Position: Summer Camp Intern
Type: volunteer position with training, stipend, more (see below)
Organization: Soaring Eagle Nature School
Location: Vancouver/North Vancouver, British Columbia
Discover and share your own gifts as you support young learners in their own joyful growth at Soaring Eagle Nature School. Learning seems almost effortless, and at the end of each wonder-full day you’ll wish like could always be this meaningful and fun.
Soaring Eagle Nature School offers 5 day long summer camps in July and August in North Vancouver and Vancouver. Our mission is to empower people to discover and share their gifts through meaningful connections to the natural world.
You would be working with children from the ages of 4-18 (range to be determined based on need and experience.) Curriculum includes and is not limited to: ecology, edible and medicinal plants, basic outdoor/survival skills, wildlife tracking, bird identification and behavior, navigation with and without map and compass, sensory development games and activities.
- Basic naturalist knowledge, ideally from this bioregion. You don’t need to be an expert, but you do need a desire to explore just as much as the children, and to engage with them in the learning process so that they can discover and solve natural mysteries. We learn in and from the natural spaces we explore.
- Experience working with children in a non-coercive and supportive way. This may include experience with: non-violent communication (or other similar framework), a strengths-based approach, supporting internal validation and self-directed inquiry.
Applicants must be 18 or older, unless with special permission.
A 5 day long summer camp. Days run from 8:00-1:45 or 3:45. You are responsible for providing your own snack and lunch.
Soaring Eagle Interns will receive a one day training prior to the start of summer camp. The training will give you a foundation in Coyote Mentoring, as well as the basics of the Soaring Eagle Nature School Educational Philosophy and Practice and will also focus on developing land-based skills.
Soaring Eagle Interns report to the Program Lead Instructor and the Program Manager.
Interns will receive a free training session as well as a SENS organic cotton t-shirt. We are able to provide a reference letter upon request. As well, you will receive ongoing mentorship from experience instructors and valuable experience in the field. For every 5 day long camp you do as an intern, you are entitled to a $50 stipend.
As these are daycamps, we do not provide lodging. You will be responsible for bringing your own lunch, snacks and water, as well as provide your own transportation. All camps are accesible by public transport.
