INTERNSHIP POSITION

Position: INTERN - Peace and Biodiversity Dialogue Initiative
Type: full-time, unpaid, 6 month internship
Organization: Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity / United Nations Environment Programme
Location: United Nations, Montreal, Quebec

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (the United Nations Environment Programme) has an internship opportunity around transboundary conservation and peacebuilding.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer for in-situ and ex-situ conservation, the intern will:

  • Assist in implementation of the projects related to protected areas, peace, and biodiversity;
  • Compile publicly available information on Transboundary protected areas (TBPAs);
  • Analyze the values of biodiversity conservation in improving ecosystem services including in those of TBPAs and how they benefit neighboring countries and showcase the value of conservation to improve peace through some case studies (from the published information);
  • Undertake research to identify, understand and prioritize steps to establish Peace Parks;
  • Review and identify tools to use (e.g. conflict-sensitivity analysis tools/methodologies);
  • Draft some basic text for best practice guidelines, case studies, educational courses and other materials;
  • Assist in other duties as may be requested
