THE MESSENGER is a visually thrilling ode to the beauty and importance of the imperiled songbird, and what it will mean to all of us on both a global and human level if we lose them.

SongbirdSOS Productions Inc. is a GTA production company that specializes in environmental documentary films. We are looking for a self-starting, enthusiastic worker to work closely with the producers on a part-time basis as a distribution intern/screening coordinator for The Messenger, an award-winning film.

The role is ideal for students or recent graduates who want to gain experience in independent film distribution and community outreach.

The job duties include written and verbal communication with community groups and educational institutions interested in booking film screenings. Other tasks may include attending screenings, contributing to social media communication for the film (Facebook and Twitter), print traffic and writing promotional materials such as newsletters and press releases.

We are looking for candidates with the following skills:

  • Interest in independent documentary and film distribution

  • Previous experience working in event production or a not-for-profit arts organization

  • Mature, positive work attitude desired

  • Good research, communication and English language writing skills

  • Energetic, organized, enthusiastic, honest, hard-working person who appreciates the opportunity to learn

  • Pleasant ‘can do’ and ‘will do’ attitude

  • Customer service skills

  • Experience in social media strategy and execution

  • Experience with Wordpress website and Photoshop an asset

  • Must be able to work collaboratively and independently

  • Experience in arts programming considered an asset but not essential

  • Knowledge of songbird species and understanding some of the environmental issues birds face is an asset

  • Willing to make a 4 month commitment to the position.

The office location is in Ajax, ON. The intern will be required to commit to 3-4 days per month at the office. Some flexibility is required as the schedule will be set by the producer. There may also be some work that can be done remotely. This is a volunteer position, but we will offer a modest stipend to help with transportation expenses.
