Position: Fundraising Team Members

Current need:

OBEC is looking for three volunteers to build its Fundraising Team. This team is part of OBEC's Finance & Fund Development Committee, along with the Finance & Budgeting Team. Functions of the Fundraising Team are:

  • Conduct research on fundraising, including gift acceptance;
  • Draft a fundraising policy;
  • Explore sources of funding for OBEC activities;
  • Explore marketing and relationship building to support fundraising;
  • Assist project teams with grant applications;
  • Train OBEC members on how they can contribute to fundraising.

The Ottawa Biosphere Eco-City Initiative (OBEC) is a federally registered charitable organization, working to engage residents of Ottawa in sustainability. It uses ten Themes and simple Tools to promote understanding, involvement, initiative and sharing. OBEC currently has about 20 members who meet monthly in an open forum called the OBEC Council to discuss issues and develop activities. An elected Board of six (6) members also meets monthly to provide strategic direction, including project approval and funding.

It is proposed that the first several suitable candidates meet initially to select their team leader from among themselves. It is suggested, also, that candidates attend the OBEC Council meeting on Monday 22 February at the Hintonburg Community Centre at 6:00 PM to meet members of the organization.

Essential qualifications:

The candidates for this project should have:

  • Understanding of how to develop a fundraising strategy

  • Ability to communicate effectively

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Ability to organize and coordinate tasks

  • Ability to record and report information.

Asset qualifications (desirable but not required)

  • Knowledge of marketing and relationship building

  • Ability to coordinate a team.

Commitment: Candidates are expected to commit two to three (2-3) hours per week for up to a year.
