Call for Board Members for the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (Volunteer Position).
Position: Board Member
Type: non-profit board position / unpaid
Organization: Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Since 1993, the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC) has been a champion for the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured wildlife. Accredited through the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, and a registered charity, AIWC relies on charitable donations and dedicated volunteers to support the care of more than 1,800 wildlife patients annually. AIWC welcomes Alberta’s injured, orphaned, and oiled wildlife, small and large, from humming birds to moose calves.
AIWC is looking to fill Board vacancies with community leaders who have expertise in fundraising, marketing, and/or communications. We are looking for skilled collaborators and innovators who champion our values and will help us reach our goals as our organization grows and demand for our services continues to increase.
The primary responsibility of the AIWC Board is to raise funds and awareness of AIWC. The Board ensures AIWC adheres to its mandate through providing effective strategic direction, financial oversight, as well as guidance to Executive Director. Board Members are expected to become advocates in the community and good ambassadors on behalf of AIWC, its members, staff, and volunteers.
As volunteers, Board Directors commit approximately 8-10 hours per month to Board-related activities, including preparation for and participation in monthly Board meetings. Board members are elected for 2-year terms, which may be renewed. All directors are required to be members of AIWC ($35/year). Previous Board experience in the public or not-for-profit sector will be considered an asset.
Application Deadline: April 1st, 2017.
